We already talked about how to create a great desk space here and how to make an apartment as a whole feel more homey here but we didn't talk about the kitchen.
Everyone knows the kitchen is the heart of the home. Where you cook for the people you love, where you slow dance to no music, and where you cry on the floor with a pint of ice cream when you can't take anymore.
The kitchen can really make the difference between homey and uninviting. That's why you never see a home renovation show without the kitchen being touched. It's a big part of showing who you and your family are. Are you messy or clean, love to use spices to mix things up or make traditional meals? How you decorate your kitchen defines your community living space.
In this post, I'll show you a bunch of great designs for a sweet, bright kitchen for multiple styles. They all cost under $50 from Big Lots! Who would've thought to look there?!
Modern
The container is just $3, it's a great way to store anything from rice to tea in a jar right on the counter without anything unsightly in the way. It comes in 3 different sizes to fit your needs!
Now this olive oil bottle, I actually have in my bathroom. I use mine for mouthwash! I don't have closed storage in my bathroom so it was great way to have it out for use instead of hidden away were guests may not see it! I've seen lots of people use this for dish soap so if you're like me and sadly have to wash dishes by hand, it's a convenient way to have it right where you need it and at only $4.50 it's totally worth it!
This glass cutting board is $5, which is crazy since it's so sleek and clean. It's a perfect way to make it look good even while you're cooking.
At $7.50, this paper towel holder is just simple, functional, and won't be too bulky to ruin the sleek lines in your modern kitchen.
And the paper towel holder perfectly matches this napkin holder. A nice design that caught my eye so much so I might have to find some use for it in my home! $5.50 and the perfect steal.
To finish this modern design, we need something to hang on your wall. This $20 mirror set will make your kitchen look brighter and bigger. Hang it all together or scattered throughout, it will look good no matter how you hang it.
Beach
I love this $8 food container, it's so cute and it'd be simple to even use it to house all of your cooking utensils. It's got the perfect blue tones to make me think of the beach right away.
$10 for a soap dispenser sounds crazy when the whole budget is $50, but really, can you say you have a beach theme without sea glass or cracked glass?
I went years without owning a spoon rest, never really even put thought into it. Once I had one though it really did make cooking so much easier and cleaner. No more spoons splashing into your pan or onto the counter when you try to rest it against the side. No more drips from the spoon either. It really made a difference in my clean up. For $3, I promise it's worth it!
This cutting board is so cute to me! It's summery and with the natural bamboo, it screams beach and sunshine to me! To make things better, it's on sale right now for $10!
I love candles, and I love candles in kitchens. As I said before, to me the kitchen is more than just a place to cook in. Wether you're sitting on the counter having a serious talk or doing dishes, it's always nice to have a nice smelling candle burning on the side. This candle ($4.20) reminds me of a mermaids spell bottle, it looks so pretty and smells of floral and fruits.
Lastly, we end again with something to put on your wall. This set is so sweet and still reminds me of the beach without being super clear. Just because your theme is beach, doesn't mean every room has to have the ocean or shells in it. It should be the vibe you create, the things you do, and the way it looks all together. Again, a sale item at only $8.40!
Modern Farmhouse
Now this is the theme of my home, this is where I smile and get to look at the things I have in my own home and let you know what I've enjoyed the most. I love this caddy since you can use it for flowers or utensils or a cute way to set flatware out on the table for guests. This may be the best $12 you could spend this week.
$4 later and you could have this sweet simple, farmhouse spoon rest. Don't fear the fact the it's white, it won't stain and it's easy to clean. Honestly, the spoon rest doesn't get as dirty as you would expect it to be.
This might not be your style of farmhouse, but I love little jokes and having a playful home. To me the farmhouse theme isn't the perfect one you see on the TV, it's a natural country home with modern accents. On sale now for $4.50.
The wire pocket to hold the cutting board is so awesome! I'm actually going to pick this up for my own home. I love this so much, the idea of it is great! I'm personally a huge fan of open storage. All these sales really have me wanting to finish this post and go to the store to pick them up! This item is on sale for $12.80.
I love having a bit of greenery in my kitchen. This little fake agave plant is perfect to add a small accent anywhere in the kitchen. Who doesn't love agave syrup in their tea? While we can't use the plant to make any, at $5 it's still a totally sweet detail.
To finish this look off, this sweet "eat" wall art is perfect. It's kitchen themed and simple and it's got the perfect amount of metal and wood. It can match just about anything and is a happy piece to perfect the vibe in your home. Another $12 item.
